Tierra Madre School . . .

Tierra Madre, a Waldorf school pre-school and kindergarden, gives students opportunities to learn through first hand interactions with nature. That’s why, in fall, 2010, they partnered with Mother Nature Gardens to incorporate Permaculture into their playground and into their curriculum. With Zoe as project manager, 20 students, guided by the 7 teachers, of the Permaculture Institute Design Course designed the Tierra Madre playgrounds. Together with a dozen faculty, parents, and friends of Tierra Madre, the collaborative implemented the design in December of 2010, moving 15 cubic tons of urbanite and 25 yards of mulch. In that amazing day, they also built a solar greenhouse and built a new run for the chickens. This year, the partnership continues as Mother Nature Gardens helps teachers develop a garden and growing plan.
